Class Descriptions

  • “Broadway Baby” (3 & 4 year old students). This is a 45-minute class consisting of Ballet and Tap basics with some creative song and movement concepts.

  • “Broadway Bound” (5-7 year old students). This 1-hour class focuses on Ballet, Tap, and Jazz (depending on selected combination) steps/combinations/and routines. Leaps and turns, as well as across the floor movements will also be taught.

  • “Times Square Tappin’” (age 7 and up). This class is dedicated to the student that wants to explore Tap dancing in all of its elements. It consists of tap technique, rhythm tap, across the floor steps, turns, and combinations and routines. Previous tap classes are required.

  • “Stage Lights” (8-12 year old students). This class is an hour and a half long and studies Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. Previous classes in all subjects are recommended although not required.

  • “Hip-Hop” (ages 6 & up). Students are selected for each class based on ability as well as age group. Hip-Hop 101 is for the beginner and younger crowd. Hip-Hop 102 is for the intermediate dancer that has had at least 2 previous years of hip-hop experience. Hip-Hop 103 is for the seasoned hip-hop dancer and must be at least 12 years of age.

  • “Ready for Casting Calls” (ages 6 & up). This is a musical theater and drama class. Students will learn song and dance routines, learn and memorize scripts, use improvisation and props, and study Broadway legends.

  • Beginning/Intermediate Ballet (ages 7 & up). This class will consist of Ballet technique at the barre and center floor. Adagio and Allegro combinations will be given, as well as leaps and turns.

  • Intermediate/Advanced Ballet (ages 12 & up). 2 years of previous Ballet experience is required. Class will be a more intensive study than mentioned above and will involve proper terminology and Ballet History study.

  • Intermediate Jazz (ages 10 & up). 2 years of previous Jazz experience is required. Students will learn stretching and strengthening, terminology, leaps and turns, and intricate choreography.

  • Advanced Jazz (ages 13 & up). 3 years of previous Jazz experience is required. Students will learn various styles of jazz dancing including traditional jazz, lyrical, theater/character and contemporary. Lessons are taught at a more accelerated level and “outside of the studio” practice time and dedication is mandatory.

  • Competition Classes and Teams-Mini-Comp Team (Broadway Company) & Dance Corp Comp-Team (Broadway Elite). These classes will consist of technique and choreography for competitions, shows, and community outreach. There will be a separate meeting for those of you wishing to audition for this opportunity. These classes are in addition to regular studio classes. There is no discount or pro-rated fees for this class and regular attendance is required.

  • Note: All class placements are the sole decision of Miss Susan and the instructor of the class. Please be confident that you/your child will be placed appropriately. You will be notified if you/your child needs to change a class due to indicating the need for more of a challenge or if the class may be too difficult. Progress reports on you/your child may be obtained upon written request to the instructor in December and May.
